A few weeks ago the Whiz Kids were in full work mode studying Greek Mythology. The learned about allusions and how they are used in literature, tv, film and in creating a writing piece. Below are pictures of Whizzies working in groups to research the meaning of the allusions "Pandora's Box", "Herculean", "Odyssey", "The Midas Touch" and "Achilles Heel". We have completed presenting our Chew The Fat projects! The students were charged the task of selecting combinations of idioms, similes and/or metaphors and explain their meaning as well as use their selected choices in their own writing. Figuarative language is a great part of the English Language Arts curriculum. It was exciting to see the selections made by Walker's Whiz Kids!
