Check out our shirts!! The Whiz Kids chose the color, decided on the logo and wording!!! I think we look FAHHHHHHHBULOUS!!! WAY TO GO WHIZZIES!!
Today was a BLAST!!! The Whizzies had a FABULOUS time at Cobb Safety Village learning about fire prevention and safety, bus safety, electrical hazards, traffic safety and first aid. They even learned how to administer the Heimlich Maneuver!! What a FANTASTIC way to bring the practices of everyday life and real world experiences from the abstract to concrete. The children thoroughly enjoyed the simulations and riding the go-carts. We have some wonderful drivers in our class.........NOT ONE CRASH!!! Despite being large, I drove too!! LOL :) I am sure they will remember this field trip for a long time. WALKER'S WHIZ KIDS RULE The Whiz Kids have teamed up and interviewed each other to determine how they each are proactive when earning a grade they are not happy with. As we practice Habit 1, we decided to reflect and determine how we use the Habit 1 in our daily lives. After the interview, the kiddies created a writing piece titled Be Proactive explaining their partner's techniques while demonstrating their knowledge of using quotation marks in written text.
Working on verb tenses has been a challenge that the Whiz Kids have worked hard to overcome. Using irregular verbs, progressive verbs and determining the correct use of modal verbs all while creating writing products can be confusing which is why we put Habit 6 into practice. WE SYNERGIZED!! Working as a team allows the students to discuss the skill and create a plan to complete the task. The children have the chance to help each other and explain the rules for usage as they complete the assignment. They enjoy working in groups and have the chance to practice a life skill that is often overlooked. Working with a collective group of people to accomplish a task or create a product is the way that people in the world exist. Therefore, starting early allows us to hone our skills when working with others. The children have learned to present their views, listen to the views of others, defend their thinking, help their fellow classmates, receive help and enjoy a constructive conversation with friends! CHECK THEM OUT!! What a wonderful way to end Spirit Week and bring in the fall season!! Enjoy theses masquerade highlights!! Here are some great pics of our Whiz Kids and former Whiz Kids! Our informational writing unit is in full swing and we are gathering data!!! Check us out as we organize, research and record!! We are AWESOME!! Family and Fellowship Day for the month of October ROCKED!! Our Leader In Me Habit of focus was Habit 2-Begin With The End In Mind. We enjoyed having Mrs. Beasley (Enaya's Mom), Ha Dang (Melina's Sister), Ms. Reynold's (Cameron's Mom) and Ms. Garrett (Christopher's Grandma) attend and lead the Whiz Kids in collecting pumpkin seeds and carving pumpkins for the class. A HUGE thank you to all of the parents that donated to make this day possible for the children. Many had never experienced cleaning and carving a pumpkin. The children had a blast!!! The children were able to put Habit 2 into practice when they gathered the seeds from the pumpkins so that they could be roasted and placed in their fall goody bags!! The pumpkin seeds were delicious and nutritious!! At the end of the day, four students were selected to take the pumpkins home and share them with their family as a reward for their hard work thus far and beginning with the end in mind! We are eagerly anticipating next month's Family and Fellowship Day!! |
