WOW!! Look at my Whizzies working hard!! I LOVE it! The students are in the process if diagramming sentences to determine the the compound subject, the compound predicate or the compound subject and predicate. Previously we learned how to identify the subject/predicate and the simple subject /the simple predicate. The children enjoy working in groups or with a partner because it allows them to synergize which is one of our 7 Habits. I have always been a fan of cooperative grouping because it allows the children to learn from and challenge each other. It also prepares them for the "real world" by allowing them to develop the skills that are needed for working with other people being that most times, in life, one will have to work with another person or people to get a job done. The process of diagramming sentences made it easier for them to identify and understand the subject/predicate and the simple subject/predicate so that they could determine how the compound subject/predicate differs. I LOVE to see my WHIZZIES THINKING!! Awesome job Whiz Kids!!
This week, we have been working on a reading strategy called Close Reading. This is a strategy used in the Reading Workshop model that requires the children to actively read text. This strategy allows the students to analyze and annotate a given text to gain a greater sense of understanding. The children had a great time working in groups to practice this strategy. It was WONDERFUL to watch them think and questions each other's thought process and ideas! Parents, The WHIZZIES will use this strategy for all of the passages they read for comprehension. Please question them about this process. Ask them what the symbols mean and why they used them. This will help reinforce their level of comprehension and they will be teaching you something new in the process. They did a FANTASTIC job completing the task and listening to each other to get the job done. This is SYNERGY at its BEST!
We look forward to seeing you tonight at Open House! If you are unable to attend please click the Open House tab so that you can review the content.
